Welcome to BRB Homestead: Bake|Raise|Build

If you had told us a few years ago that we’d be raising chickens, baking sourdough, tending fruit trees, and working the land on a single acre in Ohio, we probably wouldn’t have believed you. But here we are—and honestly, we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

BRB Homestead stands for Bake, Raise, Build, and that’s exactly what we’re doing every day. What started as a simple idea—providing better food for our family—has turned into a lifestyle we truly enjoy. We’re learning as we go, making mistakes, figuring things out, and having fun along the way.

Why We Started

Like a lot of families, we started paying more attention to where our food comes from. We wanted something better—healthier, more natural, and something we could have a hand in ourselves. At the same time, we were looking for ways to save money and become a little more self-sufficient.

So we started small.

One acre. A few chickens. Some experiments in the kitchen.

And from there, it just kept growing.

Raising Our Own Food

There’s something incredibly rewarding about producing your own food. Whether it’s collecting fresh eggs in the morning, picking fruit off your own trees, or putting a meal on the table that came from your land, it just feels different.

Our chickens are a big part of that. We love raising them, learning their personalities, and even getting into breeding. It’s not just about eggs—it’s about building something sustainable and enjoyable at the same time.

We’ve also started growing our own fruit, with apple and peach trees becoming a big part of the homestead. Watching them grow season after season—and eventually being able to harvest from them—is something we’re really looking forward to more and more each year.

And then there’s sourdough.

Now, when we say we make sourdough… what we really mean is my wife makes incredible sourdough, and I make sure it gets eaten. It’s a pretty good system. She handles the science and the patience, and I handle the quality control.

All jokes aside, it’s become something we both love. There’s a rhythm to it—feeding the starter, watching it come alive, shaping the dough. It’s part science, part art, and part patience. And there’s nothing better than fresh sourdough in your own kitchen.

Building the Homestead Life

This journey isn’t just about food—it’s about building a life together.

We’re always working on something around the homestead. Whether it’s improving the land, setting up new projects, or just figuring out how to make things work better, there’s always something going on. Time spent working outside, especially on the tractors, is something we really enjoy. It’s hands-on, it’s real, and it’s rewarding.

We’re constantly looking for ways to improve, simplify, and get a little closer to being self-reliant.

Faith, Family, and Purpose

At the center of everything we do is something more important than chickens, bread, or land—our faith and our family.

We love Jesus, and we love our family. Everything we’re building here is rooted in that. This homestead isn’t just about producing food—it’s about creating a life, building something meaningful, and spending time together.

It’s not always perfect. Things go wrong. Plans change. But that’s part of the journey, and honestly, part of what makes it worth it.

One Acre, Big Goals

We’re doing all of this on just one acre in Ohio. You don’t need a massive farm to start making changes—you just need the willingness to begin.

We’re still learning. Still building. Still experimenting.

And that’s what BRB Homestead is all about.

Bake. Raise. Build.

Follow along as we figure it out—one project, one recipe, and one chicken at a time.
